» Who are physical therapists?

Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest patients, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.
PTs examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.

Physical therapists provide care for people in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools, sports and fitness facilities, work settings, and nursing homes. State licensure is required in each state in which a physical therapist practices.

All PTs must receive a graduate degree from an accredited physical therapy program before taking the national licensure examination that allows them to practice. The majority of programs now offer the doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree.

» How is Dynamic Physical Therapy different from other providers?

Dynamic Physical Therapy is a private company owned by physical therapists, some of the same physical therapists who help you recover from injury and disease every day.  Dynamic Physical Therapy is the largest provider of out-patient physical therapy in Northwestern Michigan.  We have 5 offices in Northwestern Michigan located in Manistee, Cadillac, Grayling, Buckley and Gaylord.

Many physical therapy providers do other things besides physical therapy.  They may be part of a larger hospital structure or provide other services.  We are physical therapy specialists and we stick to what we do best.

Our physical therapists are all licensed professionals who have invested much time and energy in post-professional training.  This means that you will be treated by the most experienced and dedicated professionals.  Our physical therapists are hands-on all day, everyday.

At Dynamic Physical Therapy we work as a team.  It takes a team to create the most effective treatment and deliver a truly exceptional patient care experience.

Our facilities are of the highest quality.  We have the space, equipment and atmosphere to meet your expectations and reach your goal of returning to a pain-free and productive lifestyle.

Although the cost of treatment is not often discussed, there are tremendous differences in what different providers charge for physical therapy services.  Dynamic Physical Therapy is a very cost-efficient provider, allowing us to keep our charges reasonable.  We believe that in an age of ever-rising health care costs, all health care providers should contribute to efficient cost management.

In short, at Dynamic Physical Therapy you will receive compassionate and effective care from expert clinicians at a reasonable cost.  If you want to find out more about us, ask others in the community.  We are confident you will find someone whom we have treated.  You can also contact us directly if you have questions.

» Do I need a prescription from my doctor?

Yes.  In Michigan, state law requires a prescription from a physician, dentist or podiatrist before you start physical therapy.  Regretfully, Michigan is one of seven remaining states that do not offer direct access to physical therapy.  Direct access means that you can go to your physical therapist directly without first having to see you primary care provider.

Having direct access to your physical therapist has important benefits.  First and foremost, direct access to physical therapists eliminates the burden, in dollars and time, of unnecessary physician visits.  It can also eliminate delays of services provided by physical therapists – delays that can result in higher costs, decreased functional outcomes, and frustrations for you, our patient.  Direct access allows for an earlier return to work and an earlier return to daily activities, and it reduces the need for long-term care by providing earlier intervention.

At Dynamic Physical Therapy we are involved with local and national organizations to change legislature to allow for direct access to physical therapy.

» What should I wear for my first visit?

In general, we prefer that the area to be treated be exposed so we can do a thorough examination. For example, if a patient is experiencing shoulder problems, it makes sense that he or she wear a tank top or bathing suit to the appointment. A bathing suit is also appropriate for a patient suffering from hip or spinal problems. Of course, we also have cloth gowns available. Most patients do not like using these gowns and they tend to obscure the area we need to examine. After the first session, we generally do not need the area fully exposed for subsequent visits.
